What are private segments?

10KC has added a new capability in hub membership configuration where admins will be able to create “private segments” at hub-level to:

  • Use employee attributes for targeting, matching and reporting that is not visible to any member

  • Hide segments from onboarding to make it more seamless for members

  • Hide segments from onboarding that contain sensitive information

How can I create private segments?

  1. Click on Hub Settings > Membership configurations

  2. Scroll all the way down to “Private segments” section

  3. Add a private segment

  • Segment name: enter any name that describes the segment

  • Description: details on the type of data stored in the segment and how it should be used

  • Privacy settings

  • Visible to profile owner - if turned on, the data in this segment will be visible to the owner of the profile i.e. the member whose data it is

  • Show in onboarding - if turned on, the data in this segment will be visible to the member during onboarding

  • Editable by profile owner - if turned on, the data in this segment will be editable to the member in their profile or during onboarding or both

What are the benefits of private segments?

  • Hide fields/segments from onboarding for a better user experience (only include segments that need to be validated or updated by members)

  • Hide fields/segments from onboarding which are only used for data management

  • Hide fields/segments from onboarding that contain sensitive data e.g. high potential status, pay grade etc.

  • Match members for introductions using fields/segments which are hidden from members

  • Match members for dev pros using fields/segments which are hidden from members

  • Create reports using fields/segments which are hidden from members
