Setting a Manager Exclusion Rule in Your Mentorship Program

This article guides you through configuring a manager exclusion rule within your mentorship program. This rule prevents mentors and mentees from being matched if they have a direct reporting relationship. You can also leverage this feature to create exclusion rules based on any of the segments you have defined within your 10KC account.

Navigate to your Development Program

  1. Login to your 10KC Hub

  2. In the left navigation menu of your Hub, go to Development Programs > Manage Programs

    • Don't see this option? You may not have the proper permissions

  3. Click on the Draft tab (if your program is unpublished) or the Live tab (if your program is published) to locate your program

  4. Select the program

✅ Bulk Manager Exclusion Rule Steps

  1. Login to 10KC and navigate to Development Programs > Manage Programs

  2. Select the program by clicking on the Program Name.

  3. Go to the 'Smart Matches' tab & click 'Edit matching rules'

  4. Go to the 'Setting tab' Click on 'Bulk Edit - member edit matching rules'

  5. Download CSV & update to the below

    • Column 1 (email): Member email (mentee or mentor

    • Column 2 (should_match_with): Set to 'no' to be an exclusio

    • Column 3 (segment_name): Enter 'email' as it is the segment being referenced for exclusion

    • Column 4 (exclude_option): Email of the member they should not be paired with (manager or direct report

  6. Upload the updated CSV

  • 10KC Accounts Required: All participants (mentors and mentees) must have active 10KC accounts for manager exclusion rules to saved.

  • Timing: Set or update the rule right before a matching cycle. Revisit the rule before subsequent cycles to ensure accuracy.

A: Follow these steps to verify match exclusions for a member in your development program:

  1. Go to the Participants Tab: Within your program, navigate to the "Participants" tab.

  2. Find the Member: Locate the member whose match exclusions you want to check.

  3. Open Member Profile: Click the "View" option next to the member's name.

  4. Access Preferences: Within the member's profile, select the "Preferences" tab.

  5. Review Match Exclusions: Find the "Match Exclusions" section. Any active exclusions for the member will be listed here.

  • No Exclusions Listed: If the "Match Exclusions" section is empty, double-check these areas:

    • CSV File Format: Ensure your CSV file for the exclusions was formatted correctly.

    • Upload Location: Verify that you uploaded the file to the right place within the program.
