Profile Segments are pieces of Member data that are used to identify groups of members within your organization. Profile Segments require selection from a dropdown of available options, which is managed by Administrators.
Profile Segments can be input into 10KC either by:
Administrators sharing the information in a member data file, or
Users manually confirming information when claiming their profile
Member Data in 10KC is used to:
Match members: Use member data to create preferred or required rules for who should be matched together. For example, match members that are in different Departments to encourage cross-functional collaboration.
Target communications: You can send specific Invitation Campaigns and tailor the content to be most relevant to groups based on Profile Segments. You can also use member data to target programming. For example sending a women’s leadership program to your women’s ERG or inviting a specific group to an Office Hour.
Report on Program success: In the data dashboard, you can slice data views by specific segments. For example, measuring adoption by Department.
Enable Data-Driven Decision Making: With comprehensive member data at your disposal, you can make informed decisions about program improvements, new initiatives, and strategic directions, based on real insights into member engagement and outcomes.
Identify Members: Member data is available on the member profile and allows Administrators to view member profile information within 10KC.
✅ Types of Segments
Public Segments: These segments are visible to all members in your organization and are displayed on a member's public profile. They are typically used for organizational attributes such as Roles, Business Unit, and Job Function/Family.
Private Segments: These are member attributes for internal targeting, matching, or reporting with custom access. They are not visible to members in the Hub by default. Examples include Invitation Segments and Position Level.
✅ Creating a New Segment
Step 1: Start Creation
Navigate to the Hub membership configurations page.
Click "Add new segment".
Step 2: Define Segment Details
You will be prompted to define the following segment details:
Segment Name: The segment name that is visible to members
Segment Description: An optional, detailed description of the segment that's visible to members
Privacy and Interaction Settings:
Show in onboarding: Meaning this segment will be on the new members' onboarding flow when creating their account.
Editable by owner: Meaning it can be updated by the owner. If this is toggled off, the data can only be updated by an admin or integration.
Make visible to profile owner: This is a setting for private segments only. Toggling this option on will make the segment visible to the profile owner, but no other members in the Hub will be able to see it on their profile.
Set Interaction rules: Toggle this option if you want members to be able to set their own matching rules for this segment. When enabled, this will show in onboarding and their hub preferences.
Toggle for multi-select: You can toggle this option to make the segment a multi-select segment, meaning members can select multiple options. Note: This cannot be undone after the segment is created.
Step 3: Configure Segment Values
Once the segment is created, you can add options. You can either add a single option or bulk add options. You can then use the button to sort them alphabetically.
✅ Arrange Segments
The order that segments appear on the Membership Configurations page is the order they will appear for members on the onboarding flow and in their profile.
You can arrange the order of segments by clicking and dragging the segment using the handle on the left side of its row.
